WINTER LIGHT 2022 – 2023

WINTER LIGHT 2022

December – February, 2023

As a conclusion of 2022, whilst darkness still dominates the hours of the day, In The Gallery would like to invite you in for the exhibition Winter Light.

The longing for light reflects the current time of year, but it also makes reference to the necessity of it in the photographic process. For this edition of our winter exhibition, we would like to present works by artists whom the gallery has long-standing collaborations with as well as a few new additions. We are presenting both smaller format photographic work in combination with oil paintings, each with their intensity of color and vibrant surfaces.

All of the works are in smaller formats, with a price range to match, perfect for an end of the year gift.

Artists presented:

Jacob GILS | Lea JESSEN | Lise JOHANSSON | Søren SOLKÆR | Julien MAUVE | Steen LARSEN | Dan LAUSTSEN | Carsten INGEMANN | Werner VAN RECK | Michael AHLEFELDT |

Lise Johansson recently won the prestigious international photo prize IPA under the category Fine Art Photographyand she previously became Photographer of the Year in the International Color Award, and the achievement is well constituted in her work with its subtle tones and refined use of color and light.

TRANSFERENCE 1: STEPHAN SCHNEDLER

TRANSFERENCE 1: STEPHAN SCHNEDLER

10 March – 14 April 2018

At first glance Stephan Schnedler’s series Unreal Reality appears to be an architectural study in light, shadow and the effect they have on a selection of modernistic rooms and surfaces. However, the images are actually depicting constructed and staged models build with simple materials such as cardboard and paper, and lit in the artist’s own studio. Schnedler elegantly plays with the viewer’s perception of space, scale and materiality, and creates an intimate atmosphere, which draws the viewer further in. With the emptiness of the depicted spaces one is led not only to consider what is in the picture but also imagine what might exist beyond the frame of the motif

Stephan Schnedler (b.1984) lives and works in Copenhagen. He was educated at the School of Photography Copenhagen in 2010. Besides the series Unreal Reality Schnedler is currently also working on the project Dancing with Gravity, where in single still-frames he captures the lightness, gravity and movement of a range of floating textiles. Transference is the debut of Stephan Schnedler’s works being publically shown in a fine arts gallery.

JACOB GILS: THE EXTENDED MOMENT

JACOB GILS: THE EXTENDED MOMENT

4 January – 3 March 2018

InTheGallery is happy to invite to the big annual solo show by Jacob Gils, our first exhibition of 2018.

The extended moment is quite an ethereal creature; something as fleeting as the photograph stretched into all dimensions. A complex, visual field of energy occurs when Gils invites the observer in for further inspection of the works. In the same way one may experience and sense a place in real life, a feeling of time, space and energy build up in the motifs – which by nature is a somewhat atypical thing in modern photography. The work both draws on traditions deeply rooted in the history of photography while also stretching into the technological and digital age.

The by now iconic style of Jacob Gils’ work has been shown world wide at exhibitions and art fairs as well as in large-scale corporations and private collections.

Once again there is a chance to experience him on home turf with his show in our space.

OF TIME AND PLACE: LEA JESSEN, JACOB GILS & MAIBRITT RANGSTRUP

2 Nov – 23 December 2017

In the Gallery is proud to present the exhibition Of Time and Place, featuring new photographic works by Lea Jessen and Jacob Gils, in constellation with the paintings of Maibrittt Rangstrup, who’s work embodies an aesthetic and conceptual connection to photography.

The sensing of time and place is a fundamental human experience which points to the complex relationship between the here and now, the feeling and remembrance of the past and the anticipation of the future. It is in this hybrid mixture of existence, perception and experience that the work of all three artists unfolds.
