WINTER LIGHT 2022 – 2023

WINTER LIGHT 2022

December – February, 2023

As a conclusion of 2022, whilst darkness still dominates the hours of the day, In The Gallery would like to invite you in for the exhibition Winter Light.

The longing for light reflects the current time of year, but it also makes reference to the necessity of it in the photographic process. For this edition of our winter exhibition, we would like to present works by artists whom the gallery has long-standing collaborations with as well as a few new additions. We are presenting both smaller format photographic work in combination with oil paintings, each with their intensity of color and vibrant surfaces.

All of the works are in smaller formats, with a price range to match, perfect for an end of the year gift.

Artists presented:

Jacob GILS | Lea JESSEN | Lise JOHANSSON | Søren SOLKÆR | Julien MAUVE | Steen LARSEN | Dan LAUSTSEN | Carsten INGEMANN | Werner VAN RECK | Michael AHLEFELDT |

STEEN LARSEN

STEEN LARSEN

Steen Larsen is one of a small group of artists using the mimetic approach in their work – meaning they reflect reality through precision in both detail and expression. Conceptually his work with urban settings center the tracks mankind leave behind in nature.

While driving and traveling in the USA and Europe, Larsen mounts a camera on the windshield on his car and shoots thousands of photos that later serve as sketches for his oil paintings. His photo-based paintings are narratives mimicking a road movie on canvas. Speed is captured at its essences as well as other present-day scenes.

CAMILA ECHAVARRIA

CAMILA ECHAVARRIA

Camila Echavarría’s artwork resonates with the resilient heartbeat of Medellin-Colombia, once scarred by the shadows of its past as the world’s most violent city, now the city is reborn and is illuminated in her vibrant hues. With her brush, barcodes intertwine with nature, guiding viewers into a realm where the known merges with the unknown, inviting profound contemplation. Guided by the intricate dance of Fibonacci, her art achieves a meticulous harmony amidst chaos, a testament to the wonder of mathematics interwoven with creativity.

As she cycles through the Colombian mountains, she discovers the most colorful flowers and trees, inspiring her black and white artworks speckled with vibrant spots mimicking nature’s strategy, with color spots in the dense forest, attracting the most beautiful birds.
This artistic innovation reflects her belief that within life’s challenges lies an enduring, enchanting splendor waiting to be discovered. Camila’s artistry has earned her the title of Artist of the Year 2023 at the DSWF exhibition in London. She has also showcased her work in exhibitions across Copenhagen, Mallorca, Miami, and Medellin, and shows such as Miami Art, Palm Beach Art, and Wynwood Art. Education, a cornerstone of her being, is not only evident in her university teachings but also in her sponsorship of a student’s full tuition to post secondary education in her hometown of Medellin. She actively participates in a variety of fundraising endeavours by contributing artwork to support and raise awareness of the need for education. She is dedicated to shaping a brighter future for children through her unwavering commitment to education in her country.

Camila Echavarria (b.1980) lives and works in Medellin, Colombia. She was educated as Product Engineering at the EAFIT School in Medellin, and has worked with the medium since 2006.
