WINTER LIGHT 2022 – 2023

WINTER LIGHT 2022

December – February, 2023

As a conclusion of 2022, whilst darkness still dominates the hours of the day, In The Gallery would like to invite you in for the exhibition Winter Light.

The longing for light reflects the current time of year, but it also makes reference to the necessity of it in the photographic process. For this edition of our winter exhibition, we would like to present works by artists whom the gallery has long-standing collaborations with as well as a few new additions. We are presenting both smaller format photographic work in combination with oil paintings, each with their intensity of color and vibrant surfaces.

All of the works are in smaller formats, with a price range to match, perfect for an end of the year gift.

Artists presented:

Jacob GILS | Lea JESSEN | Lise JOHANSSON | Søren SOLKÆR | Julien MAUVE | Steen LARSEN | Dan LAUSTSEN | Carsten INGEMANN | Werner VAN RECK | Michael AHLEFELDT |

There is a crack in everything… by Jacob Gils

There is a crack in everything… by Jacob Gils

July 5st – August 15th , 2022

Opening on Friday, July 1st from 19.00 pm to 22.00 pm – Calle Plaza la Porta Santa Catalina 22. Palma de Mallorca

There is a crack in everything. That’s how the light gets in’  Leonardo Cohen

Gils, will be showing his series Transfer is a further development of the sophisticated multi-exposures of the Movement series, which is already known for its spacious and picturesque qualities. In this new extension of the series, the works undergo another transformation. As polaroids they are further transferred onto watercolour paper. Through this technique a particularly atmospheric and dreamy mood arises, which lends a certain abstract expressionistic layer to the images. Upon closer inspection, however, the eye begins to decode that in these works there are real places depicted, all with their special characteristics. In this way, the viewer is left in a state of both presence and the chance to disappear deep into the works. Transfer opens up the idea of landscape photography as a form of portal to a deeper emotional scenery.

Time is an ocean that ends on the beach’  Bob Dylan

Water is poetry. Sometimes hard and sharp, other times soft and elegant. Werner wandered along the coasts of Europe. Sometimes it was rough, then calm or everything in between. Yet the washing water always touched its inseparable companion: the land.

A perpetual motion of attraction and withdrawal, a flirtatious waterline. Fascinated, he looks at the water and documents what it does to people. Beaches and shores that seem to offer people time, needed to come to themselves. He immortalizes their moments of reflections.

Reflections that create subdued emotions, bring cheerful relation to life or evoke melancholy memories.

Retrospective by Alexis de VILAR

ALEXIS DE VILAR

About the author, Alexis de Vilar

His perfectly composed images immerse us in a sweetness of life… Paradoxically, Alexis de Vilar, while removing himself from current fashions, produces contemporary photographs, with soul, a timeless soul! How can we not hear the music he clearly loves when he uses titles like « Asia song », « Swahili song », « African song » ?

He only portrays women as sublime, perfect. You see them but you don’t hear them. The children, the vahinés, the men that surround them live in the Paradise that these photographs offer us. He also shows a penchant for what are called primitive worlds. Tribes on the verge of disappearing or already vanished. Women, men, elders, children, wild animals … a wealth of icons!
