UNFILTERED by Camila Fenster

UNFILTERED - A solo exhibition by Camila Fenster

April 19th – May 25th, 2024

OPENING : FRIDAY APRIL 19th – FROM 5PM TO 8PM

“Unfiltered” marks Camila Fenster’s first solo exhibition at In The Gallery and seeks to challenge the visual allure of curated emotions on social media. With the title “Unfiltered” this collection of photographs playfully confronts the fascination, the almost obsessive act of, portraying happiness and the seemingly perfect life.

In her works, you will see young girls portrayed in various mystical worlds full of tales about desires, power, and identity and bears wearing boxing gloves, symbolizing their role as protectors of emotions. In the realm of digital media, emotions become actors on stage, hiding behind the performative nature of social media.

Her evocative photographs, which draw upon various surrealist references, present a powerful narrative about life – both online and offline – and examine how the digital landscape has altered human experiences and emotional connection. Through the use of visual allure as a gateway, the pieces stimulate a critical dialogue about the digital facade and make us reflect upon the blurred lines between digital illusion and real-life authenticity.

AMAZONIC RAINFOREST

AMAZONICA RAINFOREST

November – December, 2023

Camila Echavarría’s artwork resonates with the resilient heartbeat of Medellin-Colombia, once scarred by the shadows of its past as the world’s most violent city, now illuminated in her vibrant hues. With her brush, barcodes intertwine with nature, guiding viewers into a realm where the known merges with the unknown, inviting profound contemplation. Guided by the intricate dance of Fibonacci, her art achieves a meticulous harmony amidst chaos, a testament to the wonder of mathematics interwoven with creativity.

As she cycles through the Colombian mountains, she discovers the most colorful flowers and trees, inspiring her black and white artworks speckled with vibrant spots – mimicking nature’s strategy, with color spots in the dense forest, attracting the most beautiful birds. This artistic innovation reflects her belief that within life’s challenges lies an enduring, enchanting splendor waiting to be discovered.

Camila’s artistry has earned her the title of Artist of the Year 2023 at the DSWF exhibition in London. She has also showcased her work in exhibitions across Copenhagen, Mallorca, Miami, and Medellin, and shows such as Miami Art, Palm Beach Art, and Wynwood Art.

THROUGH HER LENS

THROUGH HER LENS

September 27 – November 30, 2023

In The Gallery is proud to present ‘Through Her Lens’, a group exhibition dedicated to showcasing talented women photographers from Denmark and abroad. Women photographers and artists receive far less attention today and we find it vital to reflect on this imbalance thus this exhibition aims to promote and widen the knowledge of three women photographers and the representation of their work.

The exhibition invites the viewer to see the world through her lens and engage in their personal and poetic narratives. The starting point for each artist is the portrait which they investigate in various ways. Lise Johansson’s works are self-portraits that explore what it means to feel at home and delve into concepts of identity and place of belonging. Andrea Torres Balaguer experiments with materialities and challenges the traditional notion of a portrait by intervening the photograph with a unique brushstroke across the subject’s face in post-production. Camila Fenster is particularly interested in textures, shapes, and objects which she uses to create photomontage portraits of doll-like humans. All artists remain close to a poetic and subtle perspective of the world and find their inspiration in the borderland between the conscious and the unconscious mind – creating a sense of distorted reality that encourages the viewer to look closer. They explore dreams, the surreal, and the uncanny, combining familiar concepts in unexpected ways that challenge our conventional ways of perceiving photographic portraiture. The viewer is left to create their own interpretation and decipher for themselves what is real and what is fiction.

Artists presented : Andrea Torres Balaguer (ES), Camila Fenster (PT/DK), Lise Johansson (DK)
