Solo Exhibition Camila Echavarria: Learning to fly
Oct 29th – Nov 30th, 2026
This autumn, InTheGallery Copenhagen is delighted to present the Solo Show: Learning to fly by Camila Echavarria. Join us for the opening reception on 29 oct, from 5 PM to 8 PM,
Camila Echavarría turns nature into both inspiration and raw material, crafting idyllic landscapes where precision intertwines with intuition and, through color, becomes emotion. With technical mastery and a rigorous study of proportion, the Colombian artist transforms organic forms into expressive compositions built from subtle layers, delicate nuances, and vibrant accents. The sound of the wind brushing against a tree, the sensuality of a tulip, the gentle sway of a flower in the breeze—her brush captures it all, reminding us of the beauty that surrounds us and the transformative power of contemplation.
Her practice is nourished by both an academic approach to drawing and painting and a deep fascination with the laws and patterns of nature that have inspired artists and thinkers since ancient times. Of particular importance in her work is the Fibonacci sequence—named after the Italian mathematician who introduced it to the West in the 13th century. Camila continually rediscovers this sequence, in which each number is the sum of the two preceding it, through her close observation of the natural world, organizing her strokes according to the logic of the golden ratio. Yet, while her compositions reflect careful planning, they also give way to experimentation and to a quiet narrative that, through her titles, whispers an echo of hope. This manifests in the replacement of green foliage with a monochromatic palette that moves from black to white. In contrast, the focal point—almost always a flower—bursts forth in vivid yellows, pinks, or deep reds, with textures that condense the richness of natural contrasts. In some pieces, that hidden order takes conceptual form: barcodes traced with mathematical precision, are integrated into landscapes or bouquets of tulips, revealing a secret harmony.
Together, the paintings and sculptures invite us to look closely at that vastness we so often overlook. Echavarría evokes a profound connection with the natural world through hypnotic compositions that appeal both to emotion and to our innate attraction to patterns. And although she always considers the viewer, her search is more existential than scientific, more poetic than mathematical. Above all, her work is born from an intuitive, vital gesture: painting as one feels, as one searches, as one heals.
