Any new galleries this year? Please talk about them and the reasons they have been included.

Some of the galleries that will be participating this year for the very first time are 6×7 Gallery Warsaw, Warsaw; Galerie SIT DOWN, Paris; In The Gallery, Copenhagen; Jean-Kenta Gauthier, Paris; MEM, Tokyo; Paul Nicklen Gallery, New York; Sears-Peyton Gallery, New York; and Senior & Shopmaker Gallery, New York, to mention a few. And for very simple reasons they have been included for the show are that they maintain ethical standards, promote communication within the photographic community, encourage public appreciation of photography as art, and work to enhance the confidence of the public in responsible photography, providing exhibitions, appraisals, expert opinions, and consultations. Above all, they show great work!

Just having returned from Photofairs San Francisco 2018 we will not unpack our bags quite yet because for the next couple of months we will be traveling the corners of the world to participate in several exciting art fairs – some new and some old. We hope to reach out and meet even more fans of fine art photography, and to see what is happening on the scene right now. Please join us if you can!

And at the end of the day, we still have our lovely hub right here in Copenhagen, where we look forward to welcoming you here, In The Gallery.

MOVEMENT; a photo book by Jacob Gils.

We are happy to announce the new book by Jacob Gils!

Jacob Gils’ photographic series MOVEMENT was originally conceived as an experiment and investigation into the potential of the photographic genre. By questioning the medium, and his own artistic role, Gils’ discovered a unique method, which has gathered a lot of attention and popularity. The works have been shown at exhibitions, art fairs and in private collections all over the world.

Each of Gil’s pieces consists of many fleeting moments gathered in one image. In the same way one may experience and sense a place, Gils builds a feeling of time and space by using multiple exposures. The motifs are often from different cities, with their iconic squares and attractions, or tropes found in nature – often chosen from a personal and specific relation.

What at first glance might appear as abstract, or out of focus, is actually a collection of very sharp images put together. This visually poetic and dynamic balance is representative for Gils’ photographic style, and holds both references to impressionist painting, as well as simultaneously maintaining a degree of detail characteristic for modern photography.

What originally started as an experiment has through dedicated focus and specialised technical development proved itself to have a distinctive inherent energy.

Finally the complete series is collected in book form.

MOVEMENT presents the reader with an insightful view into the mind and process of an artist, and his distinctive approach to image making.
